Universal Characters from the Macdonald Identities
نویسنده
چکیده
The main result of [Kos] shows that a sequence of complexes associated with the MacDonald identities gives a sequence of universal characters which extends and generalises some representations of the exceptional series given in [Del96]. This proves the conjectures in [MP03]. In this paper we use a twisted version of this definition to define a sequence of complexes for the first row of the Freudenthal magic square. We also calculate the dimensions of these characters for the special linear groups and for the symplectic groups. This gives two new explicit expressions for the D’Arcais polynomials.

Quadratic Transformations of Macdonald and Koornwinder Polynomials
When one expands a Schur function in terms of the irreducible characters of the symplectic (or orthogonal) group, the coefficient of the trivial character is 0 unless the indexing partition has an appropriate form. A number of q-analogues of this fact were conjectured in [8]; the present paper proves most of those conjectures, as well as some new identities suggested by the proof technique. The...
متن کاملOral spelling and writing in a logographic language: insights from a Chinese dysgraphic individual.
The oral spelling process for logographic languages such as Chinese is intrinsically different from alphabetic languages. In Chinese only a subset of orthographic components are pronounceable and their phonological identities (i.e., component names) do not always correspond to the sound of the whole characters. We show that such phonological identities can nevertheless be selectively preserved ...
متن کاملConstant Term Identities and Poincaré Polynomials
In 1982 Macdonald published his now famous constant term conjectures for classical root systems. This paper begins with the almost trivial observation that Macdonald’s constant term identities admit an extra set of free parameters, thereby linking them to Poincaré polynomials. We then exploit these extra degrees of freedom in the case of type A to give the first proof of Kadell’s orthogonality ...
متن کاملFIRST LAYER FORMULAS FOR CHARACTERS OF SL ( n , C )
Some problems concerning the decomposition of certain characters of SL( n, C) are studied from a combinatorial point of view. The specific characters considered include those of the exterior and symmetric algebras of the adjoint representation and the Euler characteristic of Hanlon's so-called "Macdonald complex." A general recursion is given for computing the irreducible decomposition of these...
متن کاملSome Constant Term Identities of Cherednik-macdonald-mehta Type
We study t-analogs of string functions for integrable highest weight representations of the affine Kac-Moody algebra A (1) 1 . We obtain closed form formulas for certain t-string functions of levels 2 and 4. As corollaries, we obtain explicit identities for the corresponding affine Hall-Littlewood functions, as well as higher-level generalizations of Cherednik’s Macdonald and Macdonald-Mehta co...
